While still a young concept, the pet hotel has been very successful at airports across the country. The pet boarding industry is estimated to be $3.5B a year business. While Airport Plazas does not actually operate the pet hotel it does believe that it is an important part of our overall airport development vision.
Traveling pet owners are always faced with the challenge of scheduling their pet lodging. Typical local kennels have set hours for pick-up and drop off which in certain cases can be inconvenient. The pet hotel is a 24-hour operation offering not only convenience but innovative access.
Unlike the local animal inn, where travelers wave good-bye to their pets and never see them again until pick-up time, new pet hotels offer modern facilities that include remote internet access and live streaming to the room of their pet.
Not only does the pet hotel offer lodging, but it also specializes in grooming services. National pet supply store PetSmart has also jumped on the pet hotel trend by incorporating them into their new stores. In fact, PetSmart currently has over 160 pet hotels across the country with an additional 400 planned over the coming years.
